Ever wondered why there is an “Elf Village” at Tom Sawyer’s Christmas Tree Farm?
Years ago, when Tom Sawyer was busy planting his first Christmas trees, my BEF (Best Elf Friend), Chris, and I spied on him through the branches of a Fraser Fir. Tom couldn’t see us, because we were wearing our green elf suits and were VERY quiet, but we could see him just fine. We watched over the years as the tiny seedlings grew to be ginormous trees! Chris is really friendly, and wanted to meet Tom, so one day we surprised him as he was working in the barn.
“Howdy, neighbor!” said Chris. Tom looked around the barn in confusion. “Down here in the hay!” Tom nearly jumped out of his overalls to see two little elves sitting on a hay bale. I guess he never met an elf before. “My name is Noel, and this is Chris. We live in the woods. We’ve been spying on you, but don’t mean any harm. In fact, we want to help you make Christmas special for all the kids who come to visit. We just love to make children happy”
“Well, I’ll be…” said Tom, scratching his head. “I sure could use some help making wreaths, stirring the cocoa, and getting the letters to Santa in alphabetical order.” Do you think you both could find time to help during the holiday season? There’s plenty to do around here.” “Sure” I said. Chris added, “We could come over each day and help make Christmas memories for the kids, and we’ll ask our friends to help, too. But it’s kind of a long walk for a short elf.” Tom thought for a moment, and then asked us: “What if I built you all an Elf Village right here?”
I jumped up and down with excitement. “I want to live here at Tom Sawyer’s Christmas Tree Farm.” “Me, too!” laughed Chris. “And all our friends!” Tom finished his work in the barn and started right in on building us our own Elf Huts. Then he painted a new sign that says: “Tom Sawyer’s Christmas Tree Farm and Elf Village.
I really like crafts, so you might see me helping kids make ornaments. Chris might be helping Santa with the younger kids. When you come for a visit and see us, or one of our friends, wave and say “Merry Christmas.” And know we’re the happiest elves around!
See you soon!
