Farm History

In 1984, Tom Sawyer purchased a summer home in Cashiers, NC. Shortly thereafter, he became interested in Christmas trees. So, he leased property and planted 13,000 trees.

Tom then had an opportunity in 1987, to open retail tree lots in the Ft. Lauderdale area, his primary residence. Since his own trees were still too small, he purchased trees from other local growers. He also started a mail-order fresh wreath & garland business, hiring local ladies to make them.

In 1989, Tom purchased the 80 acre farm that is now the main location for his operation. Other than a very old (cir. 1903) house which is now used as part of the load depot, there were no houses, barns or Christmas trees on the property.

Over the years, Tom has built a barn just for the wreath and garland making operation, another barn for storage, and finally, in 1998, a house in the middle of the trees. Tom and his family then said goodbye to Ft. Lauderdale.

Each year Tom plants new trees. So, there are many different sizes available to our customers. The farm is operated as both a wholesale business and a "Choose & Cut" retail business.

In 2009, Tom began construction on the Elf Village. The village will be added onto each year to accommodate the ever-growing elf population in the area.
